With the adoption of the new Forest code, the problems of reforestation have become clearly regional, based on zonal-typological principles of forest management. These circumstances served as a new impetus for the implementation Of the concept of forestry development of the Rostov region until 2010, according to which there is an urgent need to find ways and means to improve the productivity, stability and durability of oak trees grown in the steppe.
The paper deals with the issues of growth, productivity of oak crops, improvement of forest-cultural design and the formation of plantations of a certain functional purpose. Research and industrial experience show that pedunculate oak in terms of the Lower don that forms stable and durable stands with a lifespan of 100 years or more. The main limiting factor for the growth of oak and auxiliary wood species is lack of moisture.
